Numbness in the arms can be caused by numerous diseases. The loss of feeling in the extremities is often described as your “hands falling asleep.” The sensation can also cause pain, numbness, pins and needles, or even a burning sensation.
If diabetes and vascular issues have been eliminated, most numbness in the extremities is caused by nerve compression. Nerve compression can occur in the spine from disc herniations and spinal stenosis or can be caused from soft tissue or bony entrapment in the spine, shoulders, and/or arms. It is important to have your numbness evaluated by a chiropractor or competent doctor quickly since nerves can easily be damaged permanently.
