Numbness in the legs can be caused by a variety of diseases. This loss of feeling in the legs is often described as your “legs falling asleep.” Many people describe the sensation in the legs and feet as pins/needles, numbness, burning, or an electric sensation.
Once diabetic and vascular issues have been eliminated, most numbness in the extremities is caused by nerve compression. Compression of the nerves can occur in the spine from disc herniations or can be caused from bony or soft tissue entrapment in the legs. Since the nerves can be permanently damaged, it is important to have your numbness evaluated by a chiropractor.
