Middle Back Pain, usually affecting the thoracic spine, can occur anywhere from the base of the neck to the bottom of the rib cage.
There are various causes of mid back pain including:
- Trauma, such as car crash or a bad fall.
- Chronic pain as a result of poor posture. This is often the result of upper cross syndrome.
- Misaligned vertebrae (subluxations) of the thoracic spine and/or ribs.
- Referred pain from various organs.
- Facet joint irritation
Middle back pain is often caused by irritated facet joints secondary to misaligned vertebrae. While this is sometimes caused by a trauma, it can also be caused by poor posture and overuse such as sitting at a computer or improper posture using a cellular phone.
When the thoracic vertebrae misalign, the ribs often lose their motion and can create a sharp, stabbing pain upon breathing deeply.
Fortunately, middle back pain responds very well to chiropractic care and the pain can be relieved quickly. However, it is a good idea to get chiropractic care as soon as possible because if a spinal conditions is left untreated, can result in disc degeneration and arthritis.
