Jupiter Chiropractor
Dr. Nevel is a chiropractor in Jupiter, FL that treats neuromuscular and skeletal complaints with a variety of chiropractic techniques, depending on the needs of their patients. He is trained in both gentle chiropractic adjusting as well as traditional, manual chiropractic techniques.
Chiropractic Adjustments Explained
A common therapeutic procedure performed by Dr. Nevel and Dr. Clark is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.
Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as the improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time.
In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Chiropractic Techniques
Palmer Package: The “Palmer Package” is a group of specific chiropractic techniques that are taught at Palmer College of Chiropractic. These techniques include Diversified, Toggle Recoil, Thompson, and Gonstead, and provide Palmer graduates unique abilities to treat both spinal and extremity conditions. The Palmer Package is known throughout the chiropractic profession as a technique that will give the doctor the ability and expertise needed to handle practically any chiropractic case. Dr. Nevel is a 2008 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida Campus.
Flexion / Distraction: Flexion/distraction is a chiropractic technique to uses a table that flexes and distracts to provide lumbar traction. F/D is a great low force way to adjust the spine. Many patients that have osteoporosis and lumbar disc herniations prefer the gentle, rhythmic traction that the flexion/distraction table provides.
Diversified (traditional adjusting): Diversified adjusting is the traditional chiropractic adjustment using the doctor’s hands that has relieved back and neck pain sufferers for over 100 years. A “pop” is frequently heard as dissolved nitrogen gas is released from the joint during a diversified adjustment. Diversified adjusting is also considered spinal manipulation.
Gonstead: Originally developed by Dr. Clarence Gonstead, the Gonstead technique uses the hands to adjust the spine. The Gonstead cervical (neck) adjustment is done while the patient is relaxed sitting in a chair. Patients with very thick necks often prefer a Gonstead neck adjustment. The Gonstead technique also has a unique x-ray analysis system to find subluxations and spinal misalignments.
ArthroStim Instrument Adjusting: Chiropractic adjusting with the ArthroStim adjusting instrument provides lower force mobilization of joints. The ArthroStim is a chiropractic instrument that provides mechanical thrusts of specific speed and depth, depending on the area being adjusted. The ArthroStim is a great option for some patients that do not react well with traditional manual chiropractic adjustments.
Activator Method: The Activator Method is a chiropractic technique that uses an instrument called an “Activator” to adjust the spine and joints of the arms and legs. The Activator is perfect for patients that have severe osteoporosis, advanced arthritis, or that prefer not to head the “pop” or “crack” associated with a traditional chiropractic adjustment.
Pettibon Structural Correction: The Pettibon System is a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the spine. The Pettibon System is used to correct structural problems such as forward head posture and scoliosis. Dr. Nevel has had phenomenal results in corrective scoliosis in patients of all ages with the rehab and exercises from the Pettibon System.
Sacro Occipital Technique (S.O.T.): The Sacro Occipital technique is a chiropractic technique that uses wedge-shaped blocks to correct pelvic torsion and pelvic rotation. SOT also uses a hands-on chiropractic adjustment to correct misaligned vertebrae.
Thompson: The Thompson technique uses a “drop table” to adjust the spine and pelvis. The Thompson table has special drops that aid in the correction of misaligned vertebral segments and fixated joints.
