Physical Therapy Services:
Rehabilitation Exercises: Rehabilitation exercises are crucial for proper healing of soft tissue injuries. Rehabilitation exercises are used to prevent injuries, heal from injuries, or as part of a pre or post-surgical rehab program. At Sport & Spinal Rehab, we start active physical therapy exercises after an injury to promote proper healing with less scar tissue.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation (E.M.S.): Electrical muscle stimulation is an electronic physical therapy modality that can be used to relax muscle spasms, decrease pain, blocking nerve sensation, or building muscles that have undergone atrophy due to an injury. At Sport & Spinal Rehab, we have many different types of electrical muscle stimulation machines including: interferential current, low volt A/C, galvanic, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), and Russian stimulation.
Ultrasound: Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to create deep heat to penetrate soft tissue such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Ultrasound can be useful in treating soft tissue injuries such as: tennis elbow, golfers’ elbow, rotator cuff problems, disc herniations, and plantar fasciitis.
Graston Technique: The Graston Technique is a therapy that uses stainless steel instruments to break up scar tissue and adhesions. Scar tissue can occur from trauma like car accidents or pulled muscles and from overuse injuries such as tennis elbow, rotator cuff impingement, and plantar fasciitis. The Graston Technique can decreases overall time the patient needs to be treated. It allows the patient to heal quicker and reduces need for anti-inflammatory medication. Graston can resolve chronic conditions once thought to be permanent. Click here to read our blog on the Graston Technique.
Myofascial Release Technique (M.R.T): Myofascial Release Technique is a soft tissue scar tissue treatment system that uses massage based moves to treat muscles and tendons. M.R.T breaks up scar tissue similar to the Graston Technique but the doctor uses his hands instead of the Graston tools. Myofascial Release Technique is similar to the Active Release Technique.
Mechanical Traction: Sport & Spinal has 2 different types of mechanical traction: flexion/distraction and intersegmental traction.
Flexion/Distraction: Flexion / Distraction uses a special table that flexes and distracts and is great way to stretch the low back and helps with disc herniations.
Spinal decompression: a computerized traction system for neck and low back disc herniations and stenosis. Spinal decompression can often prevent spinal surgery due to its unique computerized protocol to target specific discs. Click here to read more about Jupiter spinal decompression.
Cryotherapy: Sport & Spinal Rehab uses cryotherapy (ice) to decrease inflammation by constricting blood vessels. Ice is often used in conjunction with electrical muscle stimulation to maximize the benefit.
Moist Heat: Moist heat is used at Sport & Spinal Rehab to relax muscle spasms. Moist heat is often used with electrical muscle stimulation to provide a very relaxing experience while decreasing pain.
